New Mexico raised passenger registration 25% on July 1, 2026: now $33.75 per year up to 2,000 lbs, $48.75 to 3,000 lbs, and $70 above — with vehicles 5+ years old paying about 20% less and a 5% discount for renewing online. Motorcycles were excluded from the increase. A 4% motor vehicle excise tax applies at purchase, and new EV fees ($70/yr, PHEV $35) begin January 2027.
